Bilingual Program Creates Controversy

Socorro School District leaders tried to calm the fears of a group of angry parents.

Parents are upset about recent changes to the bilingual program.
Parents say they were told that the bilingual program was changing to english only

Many feared Spanish speaking kids would fall behind and others feel the district is not using enough Spanish.

District leaders say that's not what's happening.

They say the new program does introduce kids to more English material at an earlier age but spanish is still very much involved in the classroom.
