Vice President Joe Biden made an emotional appeal for anti-gun violence legislation at a conference in Connecticut only miles from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

The gathering included state and local leaders along with Biden and education Secretary Arne Duncan.

The Vice President said there's a moral price to be paid for inaction on the guns issue.

Biden challenged politicians across the country to show the courage displayed by Connecticut families in the wake of the December massacre.

He argued officeholders worried about political survival should be more concerned with the safety of children and Biden took on critics who argue federal legislation would infringe on second amendment rights.

Education Secretary Duncan recalled the victims of gun violence he's known while growing up in Chicago and working there as an educator and schools superintendent.
