Congressman-elect Beto O'Rourke will be sworn into office on Thursday.

The former city councilman is already in Washington, D.C. and won't be back in El Paso until the end of the month.

O'Rourke will serve on the House Committee on Homeland Security once in office.

He defeated Silvestre Reyes in the 2012 democratic primary after Reyes 16 years in that office.

He says now his time will be spent with his grandchildren.

I read a news report that Beto was frustrated with how the negotiations on the Fiscal Cliff were going. That confirms my to belief that Beto is really naive about Washington politics. I will however give him a wide learning curve & hope that he will be a very fast learner & that he will work hard & fast. He and the rest of congress have 2 months to do a better job than what has been done up to now. Why bozo politicians keep waithing for the last minute is really unconscionable.
