Monday, August 27th is the start of a new school year for the El Paso Independent School District and the Ysleta Independent School District. Police are reminding drivers to be mindful of children walking to and from school. Drivers using cell phones will be cited $114.10. Passing in school zones and failing to stop at crosswalks will cost you $208.10. Fines for speeding are $143.10, plus an additional eight to twelve dollars for every mile over the speed limit. If you disobey the school crossing guard that'll cost you $168.10.

I am glad the police are taking the school zones seriously. Hopefully this will slow people down and obey the laws and no accidents with unsuspecting children.
