Barrio Azteca Leader on FBI 10 Most Wanted List
The FBI is stepping up the pressure on one of the most dangerous men in the borderland.
Eduardo Ravelo, AKA "Tablas," a leader of the Barrio Azteca gang is believed to be behind hundreds of murders in Juarez. The FBI is cracking down on Ravelo and they hope adding him to their top ten most wanted list will help.
"It is our hope that Ravelo's arrest will significantly reduce the violence we are experiencing in our sister city," said FBI Special Agent in Charge David Cuthbertson.
In January of 2008, Ravelo was indicted in El Paso on racketeering, drug and weapons charges. Although investigators believe Ravelo spends most of his time in Juarez, he plays a role in the gang's dirty work on this side.
"He gets orders from other capos here in prisons in the United States and carries orders over in Mexico and also passes on information to fellow gang members here in the United States," said Sepcial Agent Samantha Mikeska.
And as capo or leader of the Barrio Aztecas in Juarez, his role with the Juarez Cartel has proven a lot more lethal.
"I think it would be safe to say that the Barrio Aztecas in Juarez, which he is undoubtedly the capo of that organization, would be responsible for hundreds of murders in Juarez," Cuthbertson says.
Investigators hope a reward of up to $100,000 may help lead to his arrest. They believe Ravelo may now be bald and may have altered his appearance through plastic surgery. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police.
