El Paso - Former El Paso judge Manuel Barraza's nepotism trial has been cancelled.

It was to begin Monday.

Our media partners at the El Paso Times report that the judge has requested a hearing next week with prosecutors and Barraza's attorney.

Prosecutors claim Barraza hired the son of suspended judge Regina Arditti as a court bailiff in exchange for Arditti's hiring of Barraza's sister as a court coordinator.

Barraza was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison in a bribery scheme that included accepting sex and money from defendants in return for lenient rulings.
