El Paso Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with an overnight stabbing that sent a 22-year-old man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning.

The stabbing occurred in the 10800 block of Saigon, which is near Edgemere St and across the street from Edgemere Elementary just before 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

When emergency crews responded to the scene, they located an unidentified 22-year-old man with numerous stab wounds to his body.

EPPD immediately began searching for the 24-year-old suspect and Edgemere Elementary was placed on modified lockdown after 7:30 a.m. while police search for the suspect. Edgemere Elementary was already implementing increased security measures Tuesday in preparation for STAAR testing. However, YISD security escorted students into the building during the morning.

The lockdown at Edgemere Elementary was lifted just before 8:40 a.m. when El Paso Police notified YISD that the suspect had been captured in another east side neighborhood and was placed under arrest for the stabbing.

Pebble Hills Police units were assisted in their search by Air Support and EPPD maintain that the suspect was not near any public schools when he was eventually located.

No word on what led to the violence. EPPD is continuing their investigation and will release additional information as to the identity of the suspect after he is formally booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
