ATV Accident Kills San Elizario Basketball Star

SAN ELIZARIO--- An ATV accident claimed the life of a teenage boy in San Elizario, even though he was wearing his helmet, said a spokesperson with the El Paso County Sheriff's Dept.

Hector Hernandez, 15, was riding his ATV in a field when he struck an irrigation ditch, lost control and was ejected off the motor-bike, said Dep. Jesse Tovar. Even though Hernandez was wearing a helmet, he died at the scene.

Newschannel 9 has learned Hernandez was a freshman at San Elizario High School and played on the boys' varsity basketball team.
