Attorneys Say Arditti Case Is a Political Prosecution
EL PASO - Former El Paso Judge Regina Arditti is accused of nepotism and was charged with five felony counts and one misdemeanor. One of the felony charges was dropped today.
Arditti's attorneys, Theresa Caballero and Stuart Leeds, allege that district attorney Jaime Esparza vindictively re-indicted Arditti after she did not accept a plea deal for a misdemeanor charge. Arditti is accused of hiring the sister of former judge Manuel Barraza; he's accused of hiring her son as a bailiff. We have reached out to the district attorney's office for comment but have not yet heard back.
