A demolition date has been set for Asarco.

The iconic copper smelter is scheduled to be demolished this November.

The process will take about a year.

Opinions vary on what to do with the Asarco smokestacks.

The bottom 20 feet of the towers could be salvaged as a memorial.

What do we need a memorial for. The place looks like a dump. It would be a memorial to a dump. How idiotic but par for the mentality of our city representatives.

You're an idiot. My dad assisted in painting those smokestacks and worked at Asarco several years. My dad is now deceased. So, for you, Asarco may have no meaning, but it may not stand the same for everyone, such as myself. When I pass that "dump" and see those smokestacks, I think of my father.
