Phoenix - One immigrant group is already promising a legal fight for the tough immigration enforcement legislation singed into law today by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer.

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund says the measure, "launches Arizona into a spiral of pervasive fear, community distrust, increased crime and costly litigation."

The bill makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally.  And it also requires police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.

Brewer, a Republican, signed the legislation despite criticism from President Barack Obama. He has instructed the Justice Department to determine if it's legal.

The governor says critics are "overreacting," adding that she won't tolerate racial profiling. She says Arizona has been "more than patient" waiting for Washington and that its "inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation."

Its pretty bad that as a soldier coming home to El paso I could not even get a job that pays well becouse I don't speak spanish, but when I go to Walmart and can't find something half the people that work there can't help me couse they don't speak english. As long as I work to pay my taxes so they can stay I guess eveeryones happy right? Somethings wrong here!

I am trying to follow your train of thought and finding that to be difficult at least. Please, slow down compose your thoughts with more purpose.

Thank you

When you are stopped by the police you are asked for ID and proof of insurance. It is a fact most illegals do not have insurance.
What I find disheartening is to drive by the SS office and the parking lot is filled with Juarez tagged vehicles. Once an illegal can show residency, they can obtain a myriad of social benefits draining our resources. The same people proudly display the Mexican flag. How sad...

Both of you along with Jan Brewer are full of SH***! Most people who make sainigne comments usually have not even taken the time to see the 'big picture' and more often than not are lucky to have at least a high school education. This is nothing more than racial profiling and a racist law by racist people. The big thing here is this; I wonder if those who make their comments about 'belonging to this country' and 'being so patriotic' can REALLY trace their ancestry to England. I SERIOUSLY doubtit

That is great is about time the fat racists Americans start working in the fields and factories for their greedy American boss, and being paid less than minimum wage! this way we will eradicate obesity in this country, where they just seat behind a computer. I'm an American, so I don't want to hear any #$% from the racists. I wonder if other countries try that with Americans that are overseas, how you will feel. What goes around comes around.

It is expected for white republicans to support this law.
Just know that it will be challenged and with a greater probability that it will be ruled unconstitutional.
President Obama doesn't support this law passed in Arizona and will be seeking Immigration Reform.

70% 0f AZ. approved it !!!!!

I am hispanic, and I would not be offended if I was stopped and asked for id. I have nothing to hide, plus I would take this as a safety measure rather than take it as profiling. Especially with those asking for asylum, how do we know who they really are. How did they cross the border in the first place? Guess who will be picking up the tab?

Way to go Gov. Jan Brewer !.............It's about time someone stood up to Obama, and did what was right!..........You can't trust Obama anyway!.........He is way too soft on issues concerning Our National Safety!..........Bill Payne..........El Paso, Tx

This nutcase group is trying to make it illegal to question someone who may be doing something illegal? What kind of moronic thinking is that? You have all the rights in the world if u go through the proper channels to get in. If you try to sneak in, THAT"S illegal. It doesn't matter where u r from or what color you are.
Profiling? Hell yeh. Seeing how 99.9% of the problem is from a certain nationality(s)...
I don't imagine there are too many white guys trying to sneak out of Mexico.

Let's hope the governor doesn't cave to critics.
Obama has no right to criticize when he himself, as a legal citizen, is suspect.

The state of Arizona is soverign. The US Govt. has no legal standing in forcing Az. to cancel the new law.

But McCain must be furious...Gee, didn't the Senate have to allow even HIM to be on the 08 ballot. He wasn't born in the US or a US territory, but in Colon, Panama.

Poor old John....

i'm from el paso and all el pasoans should help pass this law here also. it is utter nonsense for anyone to say it is profiling. if you are here legally why complain. if you don't want the tax payers complaining about all the freebees they give away, then pass the law here in texas!

Good Job for Arizona. If you are in the country illegally you are breaking the law and you should be treated like a criminal. Other states should do the same. Obama should make this into a federal law. It is time to get rid of those that have no right to be in this country.

Isn't the illegals immigrants that are screwing us,is our BOSSES that want to make more $,they want people that work more for less,isCAPITALISM!
I know a LOT of Patriotic Americans that hire illegals, and they won't hire Americans, ask them, WHY? remember U.S.was built in the backs of all immigrants:Europeans,Mexicans etc. all over the world. All come courtesy of our free-market economy, which demands VERY CHEAP LABOR.if they don't find anybody here our AMERICAN BOSS will go overseas.

Illegal is illegal. Period. Police always ask everyone they make contact with for ID so how is that profiling? Talk about a dangerous situation, the war in Mexico moving to the US! Its already happening. We are deploying solders to Arizona for the war. How many people have to die?
