New software for iPhones, iPods and iPads is available for downloads today...

Apple's new iPhone 4 hits the market Thursday with what Apple CEO Steve Jobs calls 1,500 better ways of doing things.

The new software that comes with it is available for download today for the millions of existing iPhone, iPod and iPad Touch users.

It's called IOS4.

Highlights include:

- The ability to run multiple apps at one time

- Treating folders by dragging one app on top of another

- Reading PDFs as well as books in the iBooks app

It also includes high definition video recording which can be edited in the iMovie app and easily shared on the web...if your device has a camera.

There's also a video conferencing feature, but it only works with iPhone 4.

Watching all this closely is Apple's chief competitor, Google, which will soon release its own new operating system, Android 3.0.
