Anthony Duo Turn Selves In For Alleged Shooting

ANTHONY, N.M. — Two wanted men were arrested and jailed Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a shooting that happened last month in Anthony.
Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators issued warrants for Eduardo Frias, 23, and Jose Alfredo “Freddy” Maldonado, 24, after obtaining information that they conspired to shoot another Anthony man. Frias and Maldonado turned themselves in Wednesday night to investigators.
According to a report filed in Magistrate Court, Frias was driving a white 2004 Chevy Cavalier on Anthony Drive on March 23 when he and Maldonado allegedly began to argue with another driver while both vehicles were in motion. The altercation escalated until Frias allegedly tried to strike the victim’s car with his, causing both vehicles to crash.
Frias and Maldonado then reportedly got out of the car to confront the victim and allegedly began to throw rocks. The victim tried to escape the situation in his car, driving to a nearby grocery store, where he called 911.
The victim told investigators that’s when he noticed both Maldonado and Frias running toward him, with Maldonado allegedly telling Frias, “Shoot him.”
Frias allegedly fired a .22-caliber handgun at the victim, striking him in the hand and the abdomen. The victim was later transported to an El Paso-area hospital where he was treated and released.
Frias is charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of conspiracy. Maldonado is charged with one count of conspiracy.
