Anniversary of the 2006 El Paso Monsoon
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — It happened 7-years ago today, and thousands in the area still clearly remember the flood of 2006.
Heavy, constant rain poured over the area flooding many spots.
Neighborhoods were wiped out, streets collapsed, pipes burst and the Rio Grande overflowed.
The flood caused more than $200M in damage to public and private property.
City Council conducted an assessment after storm 2006 and found that stormwater needs were not adequately funded.
In March of 2008, El Paso Water Utilities began managing the stormwater system and several projects since have helped during the storm season.
