In the wake of the Connecticut tragedy, many feel a sense of helplessness, especially those in the media who are forced to follow every grisly detail. To respond to this feeling, NBC News anchor Ann Curry turned to social media and asked a simple question that’s inspiring thousands.

“Imagine if we all committed 20 acts of kindness to honor the lost children of Newton..(or 26 acts, including the heroic teachers.) I’m in. A growing number on Twitter are in. #20Acts #26Acts.”

The response has been overwhelming. Here are just a few of the more than 21,000 comments

“Sent Christmas card to a sailor at boot camp who won’t be home for the holiday. In honor of 6yo #AllisonWyatt”

“Donating 26 toys to the active soldiers kids Christmas drive. Getting family and friends involved.”

“Saw a homeless couple sleeping in the parking lot…left them breakfast and a $20 gift card.”

“Sending a huge plate of goodies to our kids’ teachers today. Can’t thank them or love them enough!”

“Bought strangers coffee in the drive-thru. 19 more to go.”

“Worked a co workers shift. She lost her husband unexpectedly last week.”

“Offered to get a hot drink for a Salvation Army bell ringer…gave her a great big hug – asked God to bless her.”

“My husband held an older man’s packages today, that were very heavy, while they waited in line at the post office.”

I called the community liaison of an inner city school and asked if we could help provide Christmas gifts for a family who had "fallen through the cracks" ...too late to get help from other community resources. She gave us two - three adults, four kids. They'll all have Christmas gifts and food.In memory...will keep on going for 28. This counts as two.
