Animal Services Unveils Trap-Neuter-Release Pilot Program
Friday, November 30, 2012 - 12:00am

There are too many unwanted cats in the Sun City and now one organization is doing something about it.

Animal Services is introducing a Trap-Neuter-Release pilot program for feral cats.

The grant allows the City to sterilize free-roaming cats in the 79907 zip code area in an effort to reduce the community's pet overpopulation and euthanasia.

"If we can get to 100 percent through the whole city of El Paso it will be great. Once we finish with this zip code 79907, we would have to reapply for the grant again, were trying to get to 1,000 by April 2012 and then we are able to reapply for the grant and move on to the next zip code" said Dr. Nina Cloud from Animal Services.

Cats sterilized under this program remain in captivity for 3 days and then are returned to the community.
