EL PASO -Dog owners lined up in Canutillo to get their pets vaccinated for free.

The Animal Rescue League or El Paso set up this clinic to give out the Parvo and Distemper vaccine. Distemper is a neurological disease found in dogs and Parvo usually attacks the immune system of puppies.

The Animal Rescue League says both diseases are common in dogs all over the county. They're preventable but it can also be fatal.

"It's a horrible disease to watch. When we go to the pound to rescue animals and they get Parvo it's expensive to treat, it costs around $1000. To do a $5 shot to prevent it is a blessing,” said Loretta Hyde with the Animal Rescue League of El Paso.

Hyde estimates that 70%of animals in El Paso County haven't been vaccinated.

Experts suggest getting your dog vaccinated for Parvo and Distemper about once a year.
