Angel Tree Gifts and Turkeys Delivered

Thousands of needy families got the help they needed today, thanks to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

This year 2,200 children signed up for the Angel Tree - double the number from last year.

Today volunteers handed out the gifts to put under the tree and hundreds of families received turkeys and canned trimmings to have a traditional Christmas meal.

"The families really struggle, they're making ends meet, they're paying their bills, paying to keep the lights on, so toys are going to be just a last thought," said event organizer Robin Bottjen.

The Salvation Army says they couldn't have done it without the help of the community. To give you an example, local schools donated 45,000 cans of food for the Salvation Army's pantries.
