An Inside Look At Prostitution In El Paso

A special task force with the El Paso County Sheriff's Department hit the streets in a special prostitution sting. NewsChannel 9 was the only station to ride along on this special operation and what we found may shock you. Most of those arrested were men dressed as women.

The newly-formed El Paso County Sheriff's Office Strike Team made four arrests in the downtown area: all of them transvestites.

"It doesn't surprise us. We've heard there are a lot of transvestites in the world of prostitution here in El Paso," said El Paso County Sheriff's Office Commander Jesus Campa.

"Just like you make your living, we (expletive) do it too," said Jose Cisneros, one of those arrested during a prostitution sting.

NewsChannel 9 had the chance to ride along with the undercover officers for Operation Trojan. With this operation, timing and coordination is everything because the officers have to lay low but close enough so that when the undercover office gives them the signal, they can move in and make their arrest.

"I don't know what this guy's talking about, honestly," said Rudy Rosales, after being questioned by an officer. Eventually Rosales changed his story once it was revealed that there's an audio recording of him agreeing to have sex for $55. "I see it as if, if somebody's going to have sex, why not go all out, you know what I mean? Make money off it, honey," said Rosales.

Commander Campa says there's more to their operation than getting prostitutes off the street. "We're not just out here harassing people. We have to show everybody, there's more to it than this sexual act. There's all these diseases out there," said Commander Campa.
