EL PASO — The Environmental Services Department will announce plans to offer an amnesty period to customers who aren't paying for extra trash or recycling bins.

The amnesty period will allow customers with extra bins the opportunity to turn in the extra containers without paying additional fees from Aug. 24 through Sept. 14. 

After the amnesty period, customers found to have extra bins they aren't paying for will be charged solid waste collection fees for each extra bin. The fees, which may include up to two years of back charges, will be added to the customer's monthly solid waste bill.
