A man arrested for allegedly beating his roommate with a shovel  faced charges of attempted murder, El Paso Police said.

Investigators reported they responded to a 'man down in the roadway' call May 2 to find Edwin Overton, 55, laying in the middle of Pierce Avenue with life-threatening injuries to his head and upper body. They later learned Overton lived with Phil Edward Hart, 61, in an apartment nearby, who was allegedly responsible for the beating during an argument.

Hart was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a charge of
Criminal Attempt Murder as well as a secondary charge of Possession of Marijuana under 2
ounces.

I've known Edwin (aka Pops) for several years and always found him to be a very kind-hearted gentleman who did what he could to care for and protect others. It is very distressing to think this happened to anyone. I was glad to hear his son, Eugene, tell me that Pops is receiving excellent care at Thomason/University Medical Center. Isn't the first time I've heard glowing reports about the incredible work they do.

Sure glad they caught and arrested the guy. I am sure that this incident had that whole neigborhood wondering what was going on and hoping that the assailent would soon be caught. I hope the victim fully recovers from his injuries and that he stops living in the same place as his assailant. Verbal disagreements that turn into arugments usually do not turn out well. Someone has to be the smarter one and move on and stop arguing.
