Police: Payan also linked to sexual assault case in Ft. Worth
El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — Police have charged the alleged Manhattan Height rapist with 6 additional crimes, bringing the total to 7 charges.
According to the EPPD, their Crimes Against Person's Unit have charged Arturo Valtierra-Payan, with six additional charges. These charges include 3 Burglary of Habitation counts and 3 counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault.
Valtierra-Payan is suspected of committing several sexual assaults in the Manhattan Heights subdivision earlier this year.
With the new charges, Valtierra-Payan now faces a total of 7 charges, including the original Burglary of Habitation that he was booked on back on July 2, 2013.
Valtierra-Payan was re-booked on the new warrants on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Police say these charges involved four adult female victims who were attacked inside of their homes.
Detectives add that there are no other open cases against Valtierra-Payan at this time.
EPPD detectives were also able to link Valtierra-Payan to a sexual assault case that was reported in the Fort Worth Texas region in September of 2012.
According to police, the link was established through DNA evidence recovered in El Paso and entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
Official say that the DNA sample ultimately linked Valtierra-Payan to the Fort Worth case.
El Paso Police Department Detectives have been working with Fort Worth authorities on that case as well.
