Alleged Car Thief Busted at Checkpoint
LAS CRUCES — An Albuquerque woman who allegedly stole her cousin’s car while she was in the bathroom has been arrested and charged with a fourth-degree felony.
Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators say Felicia Renee Vasquez, 28, took the car just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 from where it was parked at her cousin’s house on JJ Lane.
The victim immediately reported the car stolen.
Vasquez was detained about 30 minutes later at the Border Patrol checkpoint on I-25 north of Las Cruces where authorities confirmed she was driving the stolen 2009 Toyota Camry.
Deputies transported Vasquez to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where she is charged with one fourth-degree felony count of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle. She’s being held on a $5,000 surety bond.
