Alamogordo traffic stop leads to meth bust
Alamogordo, NM (KTSM) — Alamogordo Police (APD) have arrested a man they allege was attempting to smuggle more than two pounds of methamphetamine on Saturday.
APD pulled over a 2004 Chevrolet pickup on the 2200 block of N. White Sands Blvd. in Alamogrodo on Saturday, January 18 for a traffic violation.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers discovered that the driver, Miguel Lopez, was a legal resident alien from Mexico. APD requested assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol.
During the investigation, officers claim that Lopez was making contradictory statements regarding his destination and travel routes. APD then requested to search Lopez' truck, which he allowed them to do. Officers discovered 2.4 lbs of methamphetamine inside of Lopez' truck during the seizure.
Lopez was subsequently charged with trafficking by possession (Methamphetamine) and conspiracy to trafficking by possession (Methamphetamine). Lopez was turned over to the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for prosecution.
