Airlines Set Record Profits from Baggage Fees
Several airlines in the United States have set a record profits from baggage fees. They collected more than $1.7 billion in baggage fees during the first half of the year alone. That's the largest amount ever collected from January to June.
According to a report from the Bureau of Transportation, Delta Airlines collected the most at nearly $430 million, followed by United Airlines which raked in $351 million. It was the year 2008 when airlines began charging for the first checked suitcase. The fees have climbed ever since.
