Agencies Warn About Potential of Electrical Fires
Electrical shorts are to blame for at least three fires in El Paso over the past month.
El Paso Electric and the fire department teamed up to show what steps homeowners can take to prevent electrical fires Wednesday.
Paying attention to how you place appliance cords, using extension cords properly and not overloading circuits could all prevent an electrical fire.
"In reality when the fire starts going to you have two minutes or less to get out of your home and without a warning device we have a potential for tragedy," said Fire Marshal Calvin Shanks.
Fire Marshal Shanks says if you smell like something is burning or your lights are flickering on and off, make sure to look at where your appliance is plugged in or have an electrician take a look at your wiring.
