EL PASO — The invitation says, “Find the hero in you,” and El Paso residents have the chance to do just that by joining in the 4th annual Battle of the Badge community blood drive from July 20 - 22nd at Cielo Vista Mall.
“It is important to come together as a community to help one another,” says LuAnn Wieland with United Blood Services.
Local firemen, policemen and sheriffs said they challenged all El Pasoans to donate blood and help save lives. According to United Blood Services, it takes 175 blood donations every day to meet the needs of area patients and to be ready for emergencies.
“We all expect blood to be there for us if we ever need it,” said Sergio Carrasco, Executive Director for United Blood Services “But only about 10% percent of area residents donate blood.”
UBS said blood donated here helps save the lives of patients in 18 different hospitals throughout the El Paso and Southern New Mexico area.
Donors can go to Cielo Vista Mall on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, July 20th – 22nd to donate for a chance to win a $200 gas card and daily giveaways, Whataburger coupons and more.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 23 and younger, and donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
