Aerial shooting policy shot down
LA JOYA, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety will no longer permit shooting at moving vehicles from helicopters.
That decision by D.P.S. came down late Thursday.
The new policy is the direct result of October's aerial shooting near La Joya that resulted in the deaths of two Guatamalan immigrants.
The decision was issued after a thorough review and investigation of the incident by D.P.S. Director Steve McCraw.
Until Thursday, Texas was the only Southwestern border state that permitted such aerial shootings.
