Aerial fireworks ban in effect through 4th of July holiday
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KTSM) — Doña Ana County Commissioners have banned aerial and ground audible fireworks for the next month due to the extreme drought conditions.
Anyone in possession of or using fireworks could be cited, spend 90 days in jail and/or pay a $300 fine.
"This will be a no-leniency enforcement effort designed to enhance community safety," said Monsivaiz. "The Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners passed this ordinance in 2009, and the 2014 drought proclamation underlines the danger this year. We'll be committing resources heavily this year."
Those fireworks may be used within the city limits of Mesilla and the City of Anthony, where no bans have been instated yet.
El Paso county commissioners issued their ban on all fireworks last week.
