EL PASO- Both The Plaza Theater and The Don Haskins Center were filled Friday night with sold out performances.

The success of top level entertainment acts could be a very good sign as the city tries to raise its energy level in the evening hours.

"That speaks volumes of the market. That sends the message that in El Paso, we spend the money and we're not afraid about it. You know, we come to the shows. We support it and that's what us as venue managers who book into these places sell to other markets,” said George Vasquez with The Don Haskins Center.

When The Sun City sells out shows, the venues find it easier to close the next deal.

"All of us collectively represent the El Paso market, and as El Pasoans continue to turn out and buy tickets to great programming, we continue to receive better and better acts in the community,” said Bryan Crowe with The Plaza Theater.

Vasquez says booking an act sometimes takes years before the deal is set in stone.

"We have to talk to the agents, the promoters, to companies that bring the shows and sell the market. Not only sell the market, but also the venue. Tell them what a great city this is,” said Vasquez.

Crowe says that more El Pasoans are enjoying quality entertainment than ever before, and the community can continue to expect A-list acts to play in The Borderland.

"When you're looking at taking a booking and securing an entertainer or a tour into the community, your absolutely giving consideration to is it the right tour for your community. Will your community come out and support it?” said Crowe.

Both venues say ticket sales did decrease during the heat of the recession, but things quickly rebounded putting ticket sales to an all-time high.
