9TH Annual Elephant Festival
September 25 & 26, 2010 (Saturday & Sunday)

El Paso, Texas – Festival is the word, as the El Paso Zoo highlights our city’s favorite pachyderms Savannah and Juno in a celebration of elephants worldwide.

It’s the 9th Annual Elephant Festival at the El Paso Zoo. Come out and join us on Saturday, September 25th and Sunday, September 26th for BIG fun while you support conservation of the world’s largest land mammal.

You’ll touch neat bio-facts from elephants; kids can discover the world of elephants inside the Asia Discovery Center, watch live elephant demonstrations, and discover delicious aromas and tantalizing foods from “Taste of the Wild” at our Asia Market.

Zoo visitors will find out how they can help save endangered elephants, even while shopping for their groceries when they use the new Palm Oil Shopping Guide. From hand lotion to cookies—and even some “healthy” and organic items—palm oil is used in a variety of products we purchase every day, but the true cost of palm oil is the destruction of tropical rainforests, which continue to be cleared to expanding oil palm plantations.

Enjoy a special “Breakfast with the Elephants” or go on a Produce Hunt and help with feeding our elephants during their keepers’ daily enrichment routine. This special behind the scenes 30 minute tour gives each participant an opportunity for an inside view of the elephant facilities plus the fun of hiding food for the elephants. The deadline to sign up for the breakfast is Monday, September 20.
