8 unattended bodies found at Texas funeral home
Ft. Worth (KTVT) — Texas police are investigating after a morbid discovery. They found eight bodies -- one of them of a baby -- in a funeral home that had been forced to close.
The landlord said when they shut down, the business owners left the bodies behind, but one of the owners stated they did not neglect the bodies and said no bodies were purposely left behind.
The funeral home marked off as a crime scene. Brenda Thomas couldn't believe it. It's the same funeral home she used for her brother and her late husband's services.
"Yes, I come by here everyday, they're like family. I pass by, wave at them. It's a shock to me," Thomas said.
Staffers with the Medical Examiners Office removed seven bodies from the Johnson Family Mortuary. A 911 call from the owner of the building told police the mortuary operators were told to vacate the building two weeks ago. He arrived Tuesday morning to confirm. He went inside and found multiple unattended deceased persons.
The Johnson Family Mortuary business is led by twin brothers Dondre and Derrick Johnson. The pair are part of a cable television reality show about their funeral business. Detectives questioned Dondre Johnson on the scene. He then disputed claims that the bodies were left for days unattended.
"Our landlord was trying to put us out the funeral home. He discovered a body was inside the funeral home, he called police, one thing led to another. This is a funeral home, this is where they belong, so when you come in there, you're going to see dead bodies," said one of he owners
