El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — Every year in this country, more than 2,500 people die from injuries sustained in house fires, and El Paso isn't immune. In february of 2010, 19 year-old Stephanie Olivo became trapped in the family's Lower Valley home after a fire broke out when she was sleeping. Neighbors and firefighters broke through window bars to rescue her, but she died five days later an El Paso hospital from smoke inhalation.
Four years later, Olivo's family and friends continue to honor her memory, with an event geared at helping an organization that helped them through the tragedy.
