Las Cruces Police arrested three teenagers suspected of assaulting a young man and taking his cell phone early Thursday morning.

Matthew Noel Gonzales and Joseph Daniel Tellez, both 18, and 17-year-old William Fielder are charged with one count each of robbery and conspiracy.

Police responded to a call early Thursday morning where a 24-year-old man was assaulted by three teenagers who rummaged through his pockets and took his cell phone.

Responding officers located the three teens attempted to drive away. Their vehicle was stopped and the victim’s cell phone was located on the floorboard.

Las Cruces Police detectives learned that the man was walking home when two of the teens asked if he had any drugs or if he knew where to get some. The victim tried to avoid the teens but they advanced and started punching him. At some point, the third teen joined in the attack.

The victim was able to get away and the teens drove off. A witness called 911 and responding officers stopped their vehicle a short distance away. The victim was not seriously injured.

Gonzales and Tellez are being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bonds set at $10,000 each. Fielder, because he is a juvenile, is being held without bond.
