An additional $25,000 grant was awarded to the AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program. The grant will allow AVANCE to expand services  in the El Paso region. Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue awarded the grant through its “Healthy Kids, Healthy Families” initiative. This is the second grant awarded to AVANCE within a six month period.

The focus of the AVANCE program is to ensure parents understand and comprehend the cognitive, physical, emotional and social needs of their children, ultimately creating a healthier home environment. The evidence-based curriculum taught to parents is proven to change lives, create healthier family environments, and change a generational mindset about the importance of education.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Families is a three-year initiative that aims to pull together local, state and national resources in an effort to make a significant impact on childhood health and wellness.

“We’re proud to give our support to AVANCE-El Paso as a Healthy Kids, Healthy Families partner,” said Debbie Cox community affairs manager for BCBSTX. “Through its work, we expect to see measurable improvements in children’s health by ensuring parents understand the developmental needs of their children ages birth to four years old.”

“AVANCE-El Paso is proud to have partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas to deliver our health focused curriculum to parents and caregivers of El Paso’s youngest residents, children aged birth to four years old,” said Taylor L. Moreno, Executive Director. “The Healthy Kids, Healthy Families Initiative is helping AVANCE take a holistic approach to health in our region. With the support of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, AVANCE will be able to serve more families and add additional sites in the 2012-2013 school year.”
