EL PASO — About 6,000 jobs were promised by organizers of the 'Get Hired' job expo happening in downtown El Paso Tuesday morning.
Workforce Solutions, Upper Rio Grande arranged for approximately 253 employers to set up booths at the downtown convention center through 6 p.m. Job seekers lined up early Tuesday morning prepared with resume folders and interview-ready attire, as some employers planned on-the-spot interviews at the convention.
One job seeker, Sherrie Parker-Tate remained confident in her hunt for a job having completed a Masters and two Bachelor's degrees in her educational career. The recent drought caused major layoffs in the dairy industry where she worked, and was looking to find new employment where she can pursue her passion in system quality.
"There's still hope, there are still jobs out there for people," Parker-Tate said. "But then again it goes back to what it is you want to do, and you have to be persistent."
The expo continues through 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, and is happening at the Judson F. Williams Convention Center on 1 Civic Center Plaza.
