EL PASO, TX — The Spine and Rehab Specialists of El Paso are hosting this year's 2013 Concussion Symposium of West Texas in an effort to educate the community about the dangers of traumatic brain injury.
Local doctors, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, school and city league coaches will hear first-hand from nationally recognized experts who will be discussing the diagnoses, treatment, and management of concussions.
"Concussions can be a big threat to anyone, but especially children. We thought now is the best time to host the symposium because football and soccer seasons are starting. New research shows we need to monitor our children closely if they get a concussion. We can't just ask if they are 'ok' and send them back into the game," said Harry Koster, Spine and Rehab Specialists of El Paso.
Former NFL players, Dallas Cowboy, Bill Bates and former Atlanta Falcon, Jamal Anderson will be guest speakers at the symposium to share their experiences with concussions and talk about the dangers of continuing to play with the condition.
The 2013 Concussion Symposium of West Texas is scheduled for this Saturday, August 3, 2013. It runs from 8 am - 2 pm at the Larry K. Durham Center on the UTEP campus.
