2012 State gas prices highest on record
El Paso — If you thought gas was extraordinarily high for 2012, you were right. AAA Texas says the annual statewide average for gasoline prices were at a record high.
A number of factors drove gas prices higher, including refinery explosions, pipeline rupture in Wisconsin and Superstorm Sandy, according to AAA Texas. They also say Middle East tension contributed to the pain at the pump.
Motorists in El Paso pumped in $3.03 per gallon in 2012 compared to 2011's average at $3.97 back in July 2008. Tuesdays prices are a lot lower.
For 2013, AAA Texas predicts gas prices will get even lower.
"People may not be spending as much money so the demand for fuel will likely be lower at least for the beginning part of 2013," Doug Shupe, Spokesperson for AAA Texas says.
