Congressman Silvestre Reyes conceded the race that would have nominated him for a 9th term after being undefeated for 16 years.  His campaign organizers said he spoke with Beto O'Rourke Wednesday afternoon conceding the race, and released the following statement:

“To all El Pasoans, I express my deep appreciation for the privilege of representing you for the past 15 years. Your entrustment of this office to me has been a great honor.

“To my supporters, individuals that have touched my life throughout my 41 years in public service, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for all you have done. Words cannot tell how much I appreciate the love and support you have shown me and my family over the years. Thank you for the good memories and collective accomplishments; thank you for your vote of confidence and for believing in me; thank you for your prayers and words of encouragement.

“I take this time to congratulate Mr. Beto O’Rourke in winning the 16th District of Texas Democratic Primary. My staff and I are ready to work with the new Congressperson and their incoming staff to transition the office and to continue the vital work it provides this community.

“As this campaign comes to an end, I thank the love of my life, Carolina, and my children for their support. I truly believe that because of our work, West Texas is a better place. We still have much work to do, and I can assure all El Pasoans, I will continue to represent and work hard for them until the end of my term and beyond, if needed.

“God Bless El Paso and this great country.”

The race isn't over yet. Beto O'Rourke will face Republican Candidate Barbara Carrasco on November 6th.

Let this be a wake-up call to Reyes and all those other vile prohibitionists who wish to continue with a policy that has proven itself to be a poison in the veins of our once so proud & free nation

Prohibition has finally run its course; our prisons are full, our economy is in ruins, the lives and livelihoods of tens of millions of Americans have been destroyed or severely disrupted, and what was once a shining beacon of liberty and prosperity has become a toxic, repressive, smoldering heap of hypocrisy and a gross affront to fundamental human decency.

Accordingly, it is now the duty of every last one of us to insure that the people who are responsible for this shameful situation are not simply left in peace to enjoy the wealth and status that their despicable actions have, until now, afforded them. Former and present Prohibitionists must not be allowed to remain untainted and untouched from the unconscionable acts that they have viciously committed on their fellow citizens. - They have provided us with neither safe communities nor safe streets; we will provide them with neither a safe haven to enjoy their ill-gotten gains nor the liberty to repeat such a similar atrocity!

Considering Prohibition ended in 1933 was he even born then?
