Two people were injured in an overnight shooting in Horizon City, including an El Paso Sheriff's Deputy.

The shooting happened at about midnight on Nayarit Dr. and Berryville St.

According to El Paso County Sheriff's Spokesperson Chris Acosta, deputies were patrolling the desert area when they came across several vehicles in an empty lot.

When deputies approached the group, the vehicles tried to drive away.  Acosta said the driver of one of those cars struck a deputy.  That is when shots were fired, striking the victim.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he is being treated.  His condition is unknown.  The deputy that was hit was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has not identified the victim, nor the deputy involved.
