An 18-month-old boy is hit and killed in the street outside his Central El Paso home. Police are searching for the driver who took off.
Police spent all afternoon interviewing the toddler's family and neighbors but they still don't have a description of the vehicle involved.
According to witnesses, the toddler was playing with other children in the backyard of this house when he wandered into the street. The boy was hit by a vehicle right here in front of the driveway. The boy's mother who was inside with other family members ran out and called 911.
Paramedics rushed to toddler to the hospital where he died. Police spent all afternoon gathering evidence trying to find anyone who saw this that could give them a description of the vehicle. After police wrapped up their investigation we spoke with the boy's aunt.
We learned the toddler's name was Derreck. He lived here with his four siblings. His aunt told us Derreck probably wandered out of the back yard through an unlocked gate.
If you know anything about this hit and run police want you to call Crime Stoppers at 566-TIPS.
