EL PASO— Many El Pasoans received an early morning knock at the door this week after El Paso County Sheriff's deputies and a constable arrested those wanted for unpaid child support.
The sweep, which was assisted by the Texas Attorney General's Child Support Division, started Tuesday when EPCSO Sheriff Wiles dispatched deputies to arrest non-compliant parents. The CSD helped deputies and Constable White find the wanted parents.
17 people were arrested on civil warrants and face up to six months in jail.
Officials said “delinquent” parents can “avoid embarrassment” of being arrested at their home or their work by contacting the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Parents whom have also fallen behind on their payments but do not have a warrant out for their arrest should immediately call the AG's CSD at (800) 252-8014 to make payment arrangements.
