YMCA of El Paso is helping parents become better teachers with their PAT Program. Parents as Teachers is a program where AmeriCorp members work with low income families and teach parents to become their child's first teacher.

The Parents as Teachers program is an evidence-based early childhood home visiting framework that builds strong communities, thriving families and children who are healthy, safe and ready to learn.

Parents as Teachers certified professional parent educators who implement the program emphasize parent-child interaction, development centered parenting and family well-being in their work with families.

El Pasoans interested in learning more about serving as a Parents as Teachers Program AmeriCorps Member can visit the United Way of El Paso County website at www.unitedwayelpaso.org or may attend a 30 minute informational session.
