Rick Perry announced this morning he is dropping out and endorsed Newt Gingrich

Texas Governor Rick Perry announced this morning that he's suspending his campaign. The Texas Governor had faced calls to drop out of the race ahead of Saturday's South Carolina Primary and made it official today. Perry addressed the nation just after 9:15 a.m. Mountain Time.

He began by thanking everyone for coming out and highlighted his staff that helped him along the way. "This has never been about the candidates," he said, "I ran for president because I love America." Perry went on to talk about his visits across the nation, meeting different people in various cities and towns. "I discovered a tremendous purpose and resilience in our people. What's broken in America is not the people, it's our politics," he said. The Texas Governor followed by talking about his work in the state of Texas, mentioning the lead in job creation and the implementation of conservative principles. "Our country is hurting, make no mistake about that," said Perry. He outlined the number people without a job, the number of people on food stamps and the size of the nation's debt.

"As a Texan, I never shy away from a fight," said Perry. He then went on to talk about his admiration of Sam Houston and said "I know when it's time to make a strategic retreat". Perry said he gave fully to the cause and would return to Texas with a sense of pride.

Perry endorsed Newt Gingrich saying the two have had their differences, but believed he was the right man for the job. In a press conference shortly after, Gingrich said he was humbled by Perry's endorsement.

During his run, Perry put Texas and El Paso in the limelight. Tonight at 5, 6 and 10 we'll have reaction from El Pasoans and have the latest on the run for our next president.

What a waste of our state tax dollars for Perry to go all over campaigning with DPS security at his side.

Jerk should pay every cent back
