EL PASO- In the next couple of months you may be seeing some road closures in certain parts of town and maybe even helicopters hovering overhead.
It’s not part of construction or anything of the sort. It’s actually going to be an action movie that's set to be shot in the Sun City. Those involved in the project say they couldn't be more excited to see their home town on the big screen.
Director Benny Ontiveros is taking test shots in Northeast El Paso as production gets ready to start for the action movie "Neptune Killerz". Mark Love, the star of the film, plays Ricco.
"He’s basically fighting against, you know, an established government who's taken over the world and they're trying to run things and my character, Ricco, has to battle that government," says Love.
Love, a Montwood graduate, has been modeling and acting for years, having roles in local and national commercials and the locally-produced film “Borderlords”. He says he's thrilled to have the opportunity to work on a film that is expected to be released on the big screen.
"I’m going to be doing a lot of physical stunts, acting, running, a lot of explosions, gun play, there are a lot of fight scenes I’m actually preparing for," says Love.
Neptune Killerz is set to be shot between August and December and most of the movie will be filmed right here in the Sun City.
"There’s a couple of areas in the desert on the East Side. Scenic Drive is one of the biggest areas that we're trying to get permission to shoot at and another location we're going to film at is a couple of night clubs," says Ontiveros.
Between 50 to 60 crew members will call El Paso home during the duration of filming. "I think doing a film of this caliber and this size and being able to bring it to El Paso and say we are from El Paso it's going to show everybody that, ‘Hey, we're on the map’,” says Love.
Love hopes to make his own mark in Hollywood. He says the studio that signed him to be the star of "Neptune killerz" has big plans for him.
"They want me to be a new face that they're coming up with in films. That's what they're betting on. That's their investment in me and that's what they told me that we're going to create a totally new character for me and a new type of actor. We're gonna bring to the big screen," says Love.
The director expects to hold auditions sometime next month to cast some characters and also extras right here in El Paso. We’ll keep you posted.
