EL PASO - On this Halloween and final day of breast cancer awareness month... hundreds of El Pasoans gathered at Cielo Vista Mall to participate in a 5K walk for the cause.

No matter what you call them... we need to protect them because breast cancer can strike anyone at anytime.

"I was really surprised when I got here and I saw all the cars and all the people. It's awesome that El Paso supports it. I didn't support it before and now you see me here."

After receiving her diagnosis last just... 29-year-old mother of two Isela Reyes has learned to take her illness in stride as she continues to undergo chemotherapy treatment.

"Well, it hasn't been easy, but we make the best out of it. We have no choice. So we try to be real positive and we just take it a day at a time as it comes."

Reyes gathered 70 walkers to participate in the second annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk... raising more than $2700.

"We saw that little by little grants were not coming in as we would like so this event gave us the opportunity to raise funds and that way we can go ahead and allocate to programs and services for breast cancer patients."

Event Manager Sonia Morales says she's tickled pink with this year's turnout.

"It's a great opportunity for the community to come together and raise the awareness on the importance of mammograms and then also to celebrate for those that are survivors and to honor those that have lost their battle with cancer."

Morales says more than 2000 walkers participated in last year's inaugural "Making Strides" which raised about $90,000.
