EL PASO- A new dog park will soon be opening in El Paso, guaranteeing a few more happy tails on the Westside.

The Westside Dog Park, 7400 High Ridge Dr. will have a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on September 24, 2011.

In October 2009, the City of El Paso received approval of a $150,000 matching grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for the development of a Dog Park facility at Westside Community Park. The City’s financial match is from the 2000 Quality of Life Bonds.

The dog park is three acres and will be a free, self-directed facility, similar to the adjacent skate park.

City Council Representative Ann Lilly says “The new dog park will be a tremendous asset to the community. It will provide a safe place for people to take their dogs to exercise & play, and it will also be a great way to promote responsible pet ownership.”

Now if El Paso would declare itself a No Kill Zone, and stop killing thousands of cats and dogs annually then maybe this park might be a safe park to take Fido for a walk.
