EL PASO- UTEP students have a new way to get to class this year and chances are you've already seen it from the interstate.

The university officially opened its new pedestrian bridge connecting the parking lot on Sunbowl Drive to the Health Sciences and Nursing Building. The bridge is 26 feet high, more than 150 feet long and cost $2,000,000 to build. Its main purpose is to provide a safe way over Sunbowl Drive to the main campus. But UTEP's president Diana Natalicio says it's so much more than just a pedestrian bridge.

"Its striking design has made it a new landmark gateway to our campus and like our miner pick just north of here on Sunbowl. It has already generated a lot of buzz on campus and in the surrounding community," says Natalicio.

UTEP is currently working on several other construction projects. The new student recreation center and the health sciences and nursing building will also open this fall.
