Unclaimed Bodies of Veterans to Receive Military Funeral

EL PASO- The bodies of seven veterans whose families have not claimed them will be laid to rest next week.

The bodies, which have been in the care of the Coroner's Office in Las Cruces, will be laid to rest with help from the Missing in America Project, Funeraria Del Angel Martin Central Funeral Home and Dignity Memorial providers.

Services will be conducted with military honors on Wednesday, July 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery for the following veterans:

Lewis A. Avalos (1949-2010) served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Roy E. Braun (1949-2010) served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Evelio Garcia (1929-2011) served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Charles Gradias (1922-2010) served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Paul Allen Hale (1933-2011) served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58.

Victor Stahlman (1954-2010) served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam.

Robert Thompson (1937-2011) served in the U.S. Army.

A cemetery service will be held for the seven veterans Wednesday morning, complete with military funeral honors including the folding and presentation of the American flags, the playing of taps and a rifle volley.

I am glad these Veterans will receive a funeral with the honor and dignity they deserve for serving our country. It is sad that their bodies have been unclaimed since their deaths. If they were forgotten they will now be remembered and will rest in peace. God Bless America!
