Two Teens Arrested After Stealing TV

LAS CRUCES- Police arrested two teenagers who broke into a home and stole a flat screen television Saturday afternoon.

Jonathan P. Manzanares, 18, and Tony Chavez, 14, are charged with one count each of residential burglary and conspiracy. Manzanares also faces one count of tampering with evidence.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on July 23, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to a home on the 5400 block of Porter Drive where a neighbor saw the teens break into a home and take the flat screen TV set. The witness gave police a description of the vehicle the teens were seen in when they fled the scene.

Shortly after, an officer stopped the vehicle on Bataan Memorial West. Officers determined that Manzanares and Chavez were responsible for taking the TV which was located in the back seat of the car.

The 19-year-old driver and another passenger, an 18-year-old man, were interviewed by police. Additional arrests and further charges are possible in this case.

Chavez received a juvenile Class III citation and was released to his parents. Manzanares was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
